How We Choose
Our Philosophy
You don't need 47 options. You need one good one. We aggregate research from trusted sources, apply our veto criteria, and surface the single product that works for most people, most of the time.
No affiliate pressure. No sponsored picks. Just the product we'd actually tell a friend to buy.
Sources We Trust
- Wirecutter (long-term testing, real-world use)
- Consumer Reports (independent lab testing)
- Reddit communities (unfiltered user experience)
- Repair technicians and specialists (what actually lasts)
Our Veto Criteria
A product is automatically disqualified if it:
- Requires a subscription to function
- Has a history of planned obsolescence
- Forces unnecessary app dependencies
- Has consistent reliability complaints across sources
- Costs significantly more without meaningful benefit
What We Don't Do
We don't chase the newest. We don't optimize for edge cases. We don't give you "best for gaming" or "best budget" alternatives. That's what every other site does. We find the one that works and move on.
Example: A Rejected Product
HP Instant Ink Printers: Great reviews, reasonable price. But they require a subscription for ink and can brick your printer if you cancel. That's a veto. The Brother laser printer costs more upfront but just works—forever.
